Orange Sulphur
Colias eurytheme

Orange Sulphur is uncommon to locally common statewide, but large areas of the state, particularly in the Southeast, have no records of occurrence. The habitat is open areas including fields, roadsides, woods edges and sandhills. The females occur in two forms: yellow and white. The white females are sometimes indistinguishable from the white form of Clouded Sulphur (Colias philodice). Any amount of orange on the ventral FW signals that it is an Orange Sulphur. There are 4 to 5 broods from March to November. The hostplants are White Clover (Trifolium repens) and Sweet White Clover (Melilotus albus). Early Date: February 16 (Chatham County); Late Date: December 11 (Upson County). Conservation Status: Secure.
