Gray Hairstreak 
Strymon melinus

Gray Hairstreak is common statewide. The habitat is disturbed weedy, non-forested areas. It uses a wide variety of hostplants including pea (Fabaceae), clover (Trifolium), mallow (Malvaceae), cotton (Gossypium) and azalea (Rhododendron). There are three to four flights from January to November. Early Date: January 2 (Grady County); Late Date: October 22 (Monroe County). Conservation Status: Secure.
