Dorantes Longtail (Urbanus dorantes)

Dorantes Longtail is uncommon in the Coastal counties but is locally common in the counties along the Florida line. It rarely strays north in fall with only one record from north of the Fall Line (Cherokee County, September 12). The habitat is roadsides, weedy fields and forest edges. The hostplant that has been confirmed is Florida beggarweed, aka Dixie tick-trefoil, (Desmodium tortuosum) (Lowndes County, September 27). Based on a limited number of sightings, there are two broods, the first from May into early June (May 30, McIntosh County) and mid-August (August 19, Glynn County) to October with some individuals lingering as late as December (December 4, Tift County). Early Date: May 30 (McIntosh County): Late Date: December 4, (Tift County). Conservation Status: Secure.
