Arogos Skipper
Atrytone arogos

Arogos Skipper has not been recorded since 1946. Otto Buchholtz collected 13 specimens in Screven County on Millhaven Plantation (private land) near Briar Creek on May 17, May 19, June 2 and August 2 and 12, 1946. (The Butterflies of Georgia, Harris, 1972). The hostplant used in Georgia is unclear, but in Florida, it uses lopsided Indian grass (Sorghastrum secundum), which occurs in the Coastal Plain of Georgia. Other plants that are known to serve as hostplants in other states are little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparius) (NJ) and pine barren sandreed (Calamovilfa brevipilis) (NC). Conservation Status: So much of the original habitat of Arogos Skipper has been destroyed by commercial timber production that it may be extirpated from Georgia.
